Finally, the SHV number is good for something!

Wondering if someone took a photo of you? Maybe someone caught your perfect landing on camera, or filmed you thermalling from their perspective?

Or you're organizing schooling flights, and want to show students a video of their take-off run?

SkySee makes it easy to share photos and videos among pilots! SHV members can upload photos or videos and tag pilots using their SHV number. Any pilot who's already signed up will be notified by email any time they are spotted in an upload. And tags of pilots who aren't registered yet will wait patiently until for them to sign up.

Uploads can be limited to be only visible to tagged pilots. But when set to public visibility, they can be found by other pilots on the Discover page, and shared with non-pilots as well. Some of these are shown above!

Discover and self-tag

The SHV number is often concealed in the wing, or too small to be read from far away. SkySee's discover feature helps you find public uploads by time and place. Or just upload your IGC file, and see who was around!

Enter the date and the approximate location where you were flying. SkySee will show you all public photos and videos taken in that area. Uploading an IGC file will look for photos taken near your flight path.

Found yourself? With just a click, you can tag yourself and the upload will instantly appear in your collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did you build this?
Swapping photos and videos between pilots is a great way to meet fellow pilots, and many pilots are happy to see footage of themselves in the air, but finding and chatting to a pilot who's maybe busy packing their wing or talking to others can be difficult. And even once you're talking, you'll have to save a new number in the phone, remember to send an email, etc. How much easier would it be to just tell: "Hey, nice landing! I've uploaded it to SkySee!" - and the other pilot knows right away where to look! Obviously, this still doesn't stop you from making friends and exchanging numbers.
What's the catch?
There's not supposed to be a catch! SkySee has minimal social features, is not gamified, will not try to get you to reveal private information or share your contact details with anyone, and doesn't cost you one Rappen. We don't have social media features, and don't track likes, comments, and so on: the best time in life is spent in the air, not in front of the screen!
Why do I need to submit proof of my SHV number to register?
For two reasons: First, obviously, so that nobody can steal your SHV number and claim tags on your behalf. Second, SkySee is intentionally limited to Swiss paragliding and hang gliding pilots and students, to ensure a small and safe community. Please note that you do not have to submit proof of your name; if it's important to you to remain anonymous or pseudonymous, use a nickname and censor your name on the submitted proof of the SHV number.
What happens when I tag someone?

If they are registered with their SHV number, they will receive a notification by email (if enabled), and have the option of accepting your tag. If you made a typo in their SHV number, or they don't want to see the photo you tagged them in, they can reject the tag. In either case, you will be notified (if enabled). If they rejected a tag, you can show good manners by deleting the tag; either way, they won't see the upload anymore.

If they are not yet registered, you can still tag them by their number. Once they do register, your upload will be waiting for them to accept or reject the tag. No notification is sent to a pilot who is not yet registered. The numbers 99999 etc. below represent SHV numbers (which are usually five-digit numbers these days).

What happens when someone tags me?
When someone thinks they've seen you and your glider, uploads a photo or video, and tags you, you will get a notification by email (if enabled); either way, you'll see it on your home feed.
Someone tagged me on a photo without my consent - what can I do?
You should reject a tag if you don't want to be associated with the underlying photo or video. However, if this happens in an abusive manner and not as an honest mistake, please send details about the issue to info(@)skysee.ch. SkySee is and will remain a safe platform, and we will ban any participant who shows that they cannot be trusted.
Can I tag myself?
Yes! You can submit no tags at all (or add them later), and also tag yourself. If you tag yourself, the tag will be accepted immediately, no confirmation needed.
When does my upload show up on the Discover page?
If it is public and has a location attached to it. To keep an upload between you and any tagged pilot, set it to be non-public during upload or by editing the item.
